PSESD Region Teachers Become National Board Certified

On December 4, 2007, 237 teachers throughout the PSESD region were certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

Washington now boasts more than 1,800 National Board certified teachers, and ranks 10th in the nation. Only four other states produced larger classes of newly certified teachers this year.

Washington Educator Career Fair

Save the Date: April 3, 2008; 9:30-3:30, at the Tacoma Dome

The fair is a great opportunity for recent graduates and experienced teachers alike to meet with administrative personnel and teachers from area schools, districts, ESDs and colleges to learn about anticipated vacancies and initiate the application process.

Math Leadership Academy

Save the Date: April 25 & 26, 2008; 9:00 - 3:00, at Puget Sound ESD

The question of how to meet the needs of students who are struggling in mathematics is one which is both critical and time sensitive. This academy will address the question by bringing together national and state instructional leaders to provide answers and strategies that will help us understand research-based math instruction, use math coaches effectively, develop instructional leadership in math, use continuous progress monitoring to inform instruction, and evaluate and select math intervention programs.

Arts Impact Workshops

The PSESD Arts Impact program is offering three workshop series that provide K-6 teachers with strategies to infuse the arts into math and writing. Arts Impact has been actively involved both past and present in research and development of arts-infused learning curriculum.

Knowledge Bowl 2008

On March 1, teams of students from throughout the PSESD region gathered at Mount Rainier High School to compete on their ability to recall information in the fields of language arts, science and social studies.

Puget Sound ESD's annual high school art competition encourages students to share their work with other students in the PSESD region and Washington state to emphasize the role of the arts as a core subject area.

Third Annual Washington State Bullying Prevention Conference

Save the Date: May 22-23, 2008; 8:30-3:30, at the Everett Events Center

Bullying is the most common form of violence in our schools. It can appear in many forms such as physical aggression, teasing, name-calling, social exclusion, and sending insulting messages by cell phone or through the Internet. This conference will provide new information on bullying and provide strategies to help prevent bullying at school.

Teaching Racial Literacy: A New Framework for Reducing the Achievement Gap

These racial literacy modules combined with on-site assistance will enable participants to achieve greater awareness of race issues. The result is the creation of a locally-tailored plan for advancing racial literacy in their schools.

Clover Park Steps Up Efforts to Make School Grounds Tobacco-Free

State and national data on tobacco use indicates that having a strong school tobacco policy is one of the most effective ways to address tobacco use among youth.   Tobacco policies are established to protect students, staff, and community patrons from the exposure to the addictive substance of nicotine and secondhand smoke.   Tobacco policies help schools to achieve their primary mission of education, by promoting physical health among students and staff, so that students are in an optimum environment to learn.

Developed by PSESD's Online Development Center, the new registration management system offers several new features in a new streamlined interface that makes it simple and easy to use.
