Issues of Abuse: What the Educator Needs to Know

Leadership Development: Formative Assessment

Use Your Data: How Healthy Youth Survey Can Help Increase Student Achievement

Learn how to use your Healthy Youth Survey (HYS) data to address non-academic barriers to student achievement. Participants in this training will create goals and strategies within their School Improvement Plans based on their HYS data to impact student learning. Presenter Maurene Stanton has more than ten years experience as a special education and English teacher and ten years of administrative experience, including the last eight as principal of Weston High School in the Arlington School District. Maurene will share her research and help superintendents and principals use it to enhance and update their school improvement planning efforts.

Mediating Thinking in Math: Bringing Students to Standard

Reader's Workshop

Participants will learn to use a Reader’s Workshop approach in which thinking skills are emphasized to develop reading comprehension. Reader’s Workshop provides an opportunity for all students to self-select materials at their instructional level in order to learn the skills and strategies of successful readers as outlined in the Reading EALRs. While the overall goal is to instill a love of reading, the Reader’s Workshop approach allows the teacher to individualize reading instruction through conferences, literature circles, response journals, book projects, and skill lessons focusing on vocabulary and reading comprehension strategies. A variety of assessments will be modeled. Participants will engage in a simulated reader’s workshop and will self-select a reader’s workshop book to use in their classrooms.

Interpreter Training for Bilingual Paraeducators

Construction contracts are legal documents that can be used to protect your district and assets, but if not properly prepared they can result in potential liabilities that are left to the courts to resolve. T3: Digital Storytelling in the Classroom with Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Elements

Learn how your students can create exciting and engaging digital stories through video documentaries and dynamic photo slide shows. This hands-on workshop will explore how to use Adobe’s photo and video production software, Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements, as a storytelling medium. You will also learn how to set up studio lighting, get quality audio, and use portable equipment for field shooting. Participants will take field trips to shoot video and take photos and utilize class time to experiment and create classroom projects. T3: Digital Literacy Institute - Print Projects with InDesign & Photoshop CS4

Adobe’s family of products called Creative Suite allows educators to enliven lessons and materials in all of their classes. Two of these products (Photoshop and InDesign) integrate for print production, enabling educators to produce sophisticated magazine and newspaper layouts, as well as newsletters, brochures, flyers, mailers, yearbooks, and any other type of document.

In this two-week, project-based workshop, participants will learn the basics of how these applications work together to produce dynamic publications. Participants will explore ideas for use with students in the classroom and be able to focus on developing their own projects to take back to their classrooms.
