Closing the Achievement Gap Through Student Action:
Student Diversity Summit Unites Teens to Address School Environment
September 27-29, 2008
Camp Beracha, Auburn WA
On September 27, Puget Sound ESD will kick off the 8th Annual Student Diversity Summit, “Degrees of Diversity: Solutions for the Future.”
Join high school teams from across King and Pierce County as they discuss how racism and all forms of oppression impact their school climates and contribute to the achievement gap. Through interactive breakout sessions, facilitated dialogues and team-building exercises students gain skills and resources to create action plans that promote culturally sensitive school environments.
This year, we are pleased to offer scholarships through the Safe School/Healthy Students Drug Free Communities grant to six Pierce County high schools interested in creating action plans that specifically address substance abuse issues in their diverse, school communities. High school teams include five students (freshman, sophomore, and juniors) and two adult staff members (administrator and one staff member). Learn more about the Student Diversity Summit!

Prevention works! We offer a wide range of prevention services.
