The Prevention Center is dedicated to helping school communities establish and maintain supportive learning environments. Our goal is to establish a comprehensive, integrated model of services that fosters safe school environments, promotes healthy childhood development and prevents violence, alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse. Our mission is to provide leadership and resources for school communities to create systems that promote equitable, safe and healthy learning environments, ensuring the academic success of every student. Best
practice strategies for diversity issues that affect school climate and
the achievement gap through student engagement, culturally competent
professional development and classroom-based interventions.
Intervention services to prevent/reduce bullying problems and antisocial behaviors and to improve the overall school climate.
Immediate
crisis support for schools including support during the death of a
student or staff member, sexual and physical assault, the witnessing of
a traumatic event or any event that polarizes, isolates or causes
severe emotional distress.
Services to help provide all children with a safe, drug free school environment that promotes learning and healthy development.
Partnership with schools, families and communities to improve school health services and health outcomes for students.
Places
Prevention/Intervention (P/I) specialists in schools to implement
comprehensive student assistance programs to address substance abuse
related barriers to learning that impact individual students, peer
culture, and the school climate.
Maximize
the impact and demonstrate effectiveness of Title IV funds and Safe
& Drug Free Schools and Communities (SDFSC) programming.
Support for school districts to integrate of tobacco prevention into their comprehensive prevention planning process.
